题目:Challenges in Modeling for Water Quality Management(面向水环境管理的水质模拟挑战)
主讲:Wu-Seng Lung(龍梧生) PhD, PE
时间:5月9日9:00
地点:水利土木工程实验中心521学术报告厅
主讲人简介:
Dr. Lung received his MS degree in Hydrology/Hydraulics from the University of Minnesota in 1970 and PhD degree in Water Resources Engineering from the University of Michigan in 1975, specializing in modeling of natural waters. Between 1975 and 1983, he worked at environmental consulting firms on various water quality studies for Federal and state agencies, industries, and law firms. Dr. Lung joined the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at the University of Virginia (UVa) in 1983. Over the years, he has been a visiting professor at Tsinghua University, Tianjin University, National Taiwan University, Hong Kong University, and Hong Kong University of Science & Technology (HKUST).
He has served as a water quality modeling consultant to the US EPA, US Army Corps of Engineers, Chinese Institute of Environmental Research, Metropolitan Waste Control Commission (St. Paul, MN), ERT, Inc., Normandeau Associates, Inc., HydroQual, Inc., Limno-Tech, Inc., Dames and Moore, the Soap and Detergent Association, Tetra Tech, Inc., the Procter & Gamble Company, Montgomery Watson (Hong Kong. Taiwan), Dominion Energy, South Florida Water Management District, URS Corporation, Hazen and Sawyer, and a number of environmental law firms. He performed water quality modeling of rivers, reservoirs, and estuaries in Slovenia and the Baltic states under NATO sponsorship from 1998 to 2003. His extensive legal experience in providing expert testimonies has resulted in a favorable out-of-court settlement for Burlington Northern and Santa Fe (BNSF) Railway against Sierra Club in November 2016.
Dr. Lung served as Associate Editor for Journal of Environmental Engineering from 1994 to 1998. He was the Editor-in-Chief for Water Quality and Ecosystem Modelling from 2000 to 2002. He is currently serving on the editorial board for Journal of Hydro-Environment Research. Dr. Lung has also served on the US EPA Science Advisory Board.
Dr. Lung’s current research focus is on tracking the fate and transport of EDCs (Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals) and PPCPs (Pharmaceutical and Personal Care Products) in receiving waters, contributing to a number of recent publications in this area. In collaboration with National Taiwan University, he has developed models of antibiotics in the Xindian River. He is currently leading an UVa project on water quality modeling of the Yamuna River in Delhi, India to restore the polluted water body.
He led a joint UVa/HKUST Jefferson Global Seminars, lecturing “A Global Perspective of a Sustainable Environment” in 2013 and 2014 in Hong Kong.
